Grinding Department Foreperson

The Job:

  • The Grinding Department Supervisor will manage the centerless, bench, and plunge grinding area including the ware washing of our scientific glassware manufacturing facility.
  • Planning, organizing, controlling, reviewing, and directing departmental jobs to ensure that the product effectively satisfies the drawing specifications as well as the quality standards while ultimately meeting the specified time-lines as set forth by Production Scheduling
  • Collaborate with other departmental supervisors to find best practices and solutions that will improve overall performance and product
  • Maintain departmental machinery/tooling/material/supply inventory to ensure zero interruption to meeting time-lines
  • Strive to improve the skill-set and overall performance of departmental personnel.
  • The supervisor will also be responsible for direct labor in all areas of grinding including washing; the percentage will vary depending on employee attendance, etc.
  • Provide a positive and equitable working environment
  • Perform administrative duties
  • Understand that responsibilities are not limited to above


  • Senior level (15+ years) hands-on scientific glass grinding experience in centerless, bench and plunge grinding including setup
  • Previous supervisory experience a plus
  • Demonstrate interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to interface well with other departments, and lead effectively and efficiently in a team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a manufacturing plant setting
  • Strong assessment and troubleshooting skills
  • Manual dexterity necessary for direct labor and administrative functions
  • Ability to lift/pull/push/carry up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to sit for extended periods
  • Ability to move throughout the plant in order to get the job done
  • Must be able to take direction from management and deal with everyone in a level-headed/productive manner
